Design Engineer
Location: Manhattan, NYC (Chelsea neighborhood)
Type: Full-time, In-Person
Compensation: $65,000–$70,000 base, with eligibility for up to a 10% bonus based on (i) company and (ii) individual performance
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Design Engineer to help support and grow a New York based architectural lighting manufacturer. This could be a great fit for an industrial designer, mechanical engineer, or experienced drafter. You will create mechanical drawings, develop and maintain documentation, manage inventory, solve manufacturing problems, and refine our production process. You will be working with a talented team of designers, engineers, technicians, and sales and customer service professionals. At your disposal are 3D printers, a CNC router, and a complete wood shop. You will be working primarily in the New York City Office and occasionally at the factory in Mineola, NY.
You Will…
- Create shop drawings of products for our own factory and parts for vendors/suppliers
- Develop BoMs for products and orders and use MRP/ERP software to manage inventory
- Calculate and specify requirements for lighting equipment based on power, voltage, current, and light output
- Collaborate with designers to create documentation such as manufacturing work instructions, spec sheets, installation guides, and wiring diagrams
- Analyze and improve ordering, manufacturing processes
- Support other departments such as customer service, production, & after-sales support
You’ll Be a Great Fit If You…
- Have 0.5-2 years of experience with engineering or design in a manufacturing setting (we welcome internship and project experience)
- Are highly experienced with Solidworks (Assemblies, Mates, Drawings, Design Tables; extensive experience with other CAD software may be accepted)
- Have a solid understanding of Excel including formulas such as CONCAT & VLOOKUP and exposed to manufacturing processes (e.g., die casting, extruding, & sheet metal)
Bonus Points for Having Experience in/with…
- The lighting industry
- Regulatory testing such as UL/ETL
- MRP/ERP Software (especially Fishbowls)
- KeyShot, Blender, InDesign, Illustrator
- Soldering, multimeters, power tools, and basic fabrication techniques
