Sustainability
at Scout
At Scout, sustainability begins with design.
By controlling our product ecosystem and standardizing key components, we create lighting systems that last longer, adapt to changing technology, and reduce unnecessary waste.
Our approach prioritizes longevity, adaptability, and energy efficiency, helping lighting systems support both sustainable buildings and long-term performance.
CORE PRINCIPLES
MODULAR
SYSTEMS
Modular design extends
product life.
MADE WITH
RECYCLED MATERIALS
Responsible metals and plastics used across components.
REPAIRABLE BY
DESIGN
Fixtures designed for maintenance and service.
UPGRADE
WITHOUT REPLACING
Retrofit systems extend the life of existing fixtures.
DESIGNED FOR LONGEVITY
Scout fixtures are engineered with a standardized internal architecture.
For more than eight years, we have used consistent board layouts and mounting systems across our fixtures. This allows products to be serviced, repaired, or upgraded without replacing the entire luminaire.
Our modular approach extends even further through standardized lenses and the Scout LumenDial system, where one lighting engine can represent multiple output levels.
This modular ecosystem allows us to:
-
Reduce the number of unique components across our product line
-
Maintain higher inventory of fewer SKUs
-
Simplify maintenance and future upgrades
The result is lighting designed for long service life and reduced material waste.
Adaptive Reuse & Retrofit
Lighting upgrades should not require replacing an entire fixture.
Scout products support adaptive reuse, allowing existing building infrastructure to remain in place while benefiting from modern lighting technology.
Through Scout Retrofit Kits, fluorescent-based fixtures can be upgraded to LED without replacing the complete housing. New gear trays drop into existing fixtures while preserving original mounting systems and hardware.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY &
CONTROLS
Energy performance is a critical part of sustainable lighting.
Scout fixtures use efficient LED technology and are designed to integrate seamlessly with modern lighting control systems.
Through dimming, scheduling, and occupancy-based control strategies, buildings can significantly improve overall energy efficiency while maintaining visual comfort and flexibility.
Together, efficient luminaires and intelligent controls help reduce energy consumption throughout the life of the installation.
RECYCLED MATERIALS
-
Lenses use recycled plastics
-
Fixture components use recycled aluminum and steel
-
Meets Buy America / Buy American requirements
EFFICIENT MANUFACTURING
-
Aluminum, steel, and lenses are pre-separated
-
Scrap is collected and sent for recycling
MODULAR DESIGN SYSTEMS
- Modular design extends product life and
reduces replacement.
REUSE & RECOVERY
- Retrofit kits upgrade existing fixtures
- Extends the life of installed lighting
- Reduces demolition and material waste
